How To Seal Your MDF Base!

It's easy to do but SO important!

All MDF bases should be sealed prior to tiling. MDF (medium density fiberboard) is a very dense wood composite that isn't subject to warping but why take a chance when you spend so much money on your mosaic tiles?

One glue that is popular is "Weldbond." It's a white glue that dries clear. Dilute the Weldbond using this ratio...5 parts water to 1 part Weldbond. Brush onto your MDF base, including all sides, corners and I even suggest doing this on the back. This gives an even tension to your MDF base.

Sealing is not the most exciting thing in the world but it only takes minutes to dry and you can tile away with confidence that your MDF base will not absorb any liquids when you grout and most certainly will not warp.

If you don't have any Weldbond on hand you can use any good glue. Carpenters Wood Glue is another good choice.

Happy tiling!

PEACE SIGNS!!!

"It's Gonna Be Alright" Mosaic Peace Sign (c) 2010 Artful Mosaics

There's no doubt about it...I love Peace Signs!!!
I design and make MDF mosaic bases/shapes for my own mosaic and for my customers.
I am fascinated with the many different interpretations that my buyers come up with when tiling their MDF shapes!
This is one of the reasons I love to sell supplies. I never know what to expect when one of my buyers send a photo of their finished project!
I also sell sanded polyblend Grout in a variety of colors for your mosaic projects. Polyblend grout needs no additives other than water.
When I created the peace sign pictured, I used two different colors of grout to make the colors and tile shapes stand out. Pretty cool, huh?
I specialize in MDF bases! I add new MDF shapes on a regular basis to offer you more choices and diversity when planning your next mosaic project!
